'The Musée National de la Marine reopened in November 2023 following a complete interior transformation led by Casson Mann. The project, which won in the Interior Design – Exhibition / Gallery category at the BLT Built Design Awards, brings together classical maritime collections, large-scale scenographic elements, and multimedia across a series of exhibition spaces within the museum’s historic building in central Paris.

The design introduces the many sculptural installations present at the museum, including a life-sized ship’s hull, a stack of shipping containers, and a wave structure animated by projection. These elements were designed as visual anchors within the galleries, each built to interact with the exhibition content and the surrounding architecture. The layout keeps sightlines open across the museum, and new structures were placed to avoid blocking the building’s original proportions.

Historic artefacts are presented alongside tactile replicas, digital interactives, and film-based media, making the displays flexible and accessible. New insertions are kept visually light, allowing the existing building—renovated by h2o architectes and Snøhetta—to remain legible. Lighting, developed by Artechnic, guides visitors through exhibitions and even creates shifts in the atmosphere from gallery to gallery.'
