Opened 16th May 2023, Casson Mann's complex and fascinating redesign of the RCS England’s Hunterian Museum helps visitors understand the significance of a rich collection. At its core lies the story of John Hunter – 18th-century anatomist, physician, and surgeon – for whom this London museum is named. The design strengthens the narrative by establishing a strong chronology and interweaving stories of Hunter, his legacy, the history of surgery and modern practice. Full of surprises and curious juxtapositions, eight galleries trace the evolution of medical knowledge and contextualise the controversial practices of the past. The design highlight is the Long Gallery, where over 2,000 illuminated anatomical specimen jars draw visitors into close contemplation of their contents.
